Youth & Education
Helping to create a new generation of hunters, anglers, shooters, and conservationists.

The chapter sponsors or hosts a variety of events throughout the year to get both youth and adults involved in the outdoors.

Each year, the chapter co-hosts the Outdoor Youth Jambore where youth spend a day learning all about the outdoors through activities ranging from canoeing to wildlife identification to archery to shotgun and rifle shooting. Lunch is provided and every youth goes home with a tee shirt and prizes.

The chapter also sponsors Hunter Education classes each year which are hosted by Des Moines County Conservation.

The chapter has been instrumental in starting youth shooting sports in Des Moines County. In 2012, it helped get the 4-H Shooting Sports club started and in 2013 it helped start the Burlington High School Trapshooting Club, the first school-based shooting club in Des Moines County.

Today, every kid in the county from 6th through 12th grade has the opportunity to participate in shooting sports. They can even continue with the sport at the local community college.

Our most recent initiative is the Iowa Conservation Club. It's a new program for adults interested in outdoor recreation in and around Des Moines County, Iowa. Monthly activities include hiking, paddling, fishing, hunting,  and shooting. Along the way, we learn how these activities relate to conservation.

Habitat Programs
Let us help you achieve your habitat management objectives.

Need help with a prescribed fire? Want more pheasants on your property but not sure where to start? We can help!

The Aldo Leopold Chapter of Pheasants Forever can assist with:

  • Habitat assessment and management planning

  • Prescribed burning

  • Native grass planting

  • Food plots

  • Windbreaks and shelterbelts

  • ...and much more!

There's a good chance we'll even help pay for it through our private landowner cost-share program.
